World Cup 2022: Qatar Airways operates nearly 14.000 flights during the tournament

Qatar Airways, official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, operated a total of nearly 14.000 flights during the tournament. This week, the airline took stock of what it called “a sensational event” and celebrated bringing the Persian Gulf country together with the rest of the world “for the greatest sporting show on Earth”.

“What started off as a dream has finally turned into reality”, said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways. “The State of Qatar succeeded in bringing the world together in a celebration of football and unity, and now history will remember this FIFA World Cup, the first in the Middle East, and the best edition ever”, he said.

The airline ended its participation in the tournament by being part of the presentation of medals and individual awards to the Argentina and France teams following the final at the Iconic Stadium in Lusail. “On behalf of the Qatar Airways Group, I would like to congratulate the Argentinian team for their victorious performance and also commend the French team for their inspiring journey throughout the tournament”, Al Baker added.

Ahead of the tournament, Qatar Airways launched the song “C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S”, which featured artists DJ Rodge and Cheb Khaled and was part of FIFA’s official music compilation.

The company noted that the Qatar Airways Sky House, an interactive activity space located at the FIFA Fan Festival in Doha’s Al Bidda Park, welcomed more than 1.8 million fans during the tournament.

Qatar Airways’ frequent flyer programme, Privilege Club, added more than 67,000 new members during the tournament, having successfully completed five different offer campaign. In addition, the airline offered all passengers travelling through Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Doha International Airport (DIA) free themed lounge experiences in both terminals.

The airline also sponsored the Diego Armando Maradona Give&Get Fanfest, a state-of-the-art space in homage to the Argentine star. There you could visit the “Tango D10S”, a Bombardier Challenger 601-3A with registration number LV-JVE, which wore a special commemorative livery and offered an interactive experience based on artificial intelligence with the figure of the footballer.
