Delta Air Lines has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to offer scheduled passenger, cargo and mail service between New York (JFK) and Buenos Aires (EZE).
The Atlanta-based carrier is seeking an extension of the U.S.-Argentina Air Transport Agreement to materialize this service.
Delta proposes to offer daily flights between John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Ezeiza Airport (EZE) beginning December 16, 2023 operated on Boeing 767-400ER aircraft with a capacity of 238 seats in four classes (34 Delta One/20 Premium Select/28 Delta Comfort+/156 Main Cabin).
Proposed flight itinerary
- New York (JFK) 22:00 – Buenos Aires (EZE) 09:45+1
- Buenos Aires (EZE) 21:00 – New York (JFK) 07:05+1
Delta expects the authority to grant it the permits to operate this service, which will offer travelers more competitive options for their flights between the U.S. and Argentina. The market between New York and Buenos Aires is currently served by American Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas, and Delta’s last operation on this route was on March 28, 2009, where it operated a non-stop service with five weekly flights on Boeing 767-300ERs.
The proposed service will allow consumers to have greater options to connect to more destinations from one of the company’s main hubs at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), as well as boost trade and travel opportunities between the two regions. Delta in Argentina currently provides daily flights from its mega hub in Atlanta (ATL) to Buenos Aires (EZE) on Boeing 767-400ERs.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), 429,556 passengers were mobilized in 2019 between Buenos Aires and the New York metropolitan area, the second largest market between Argentina and the United States.
Currently, Delta from John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) offers nonstop service in South America to Sao Paulo – Guarulhos (GRU) and Bogota (BOG).
