Norwegian moved more than 1.3 million passengers last December. In all of 2022, the Scandinavian airline carried 18 million passengers.

Operations during the holiday season concluded a positive year for the airline, marked by a tripling in passenger numbers and a continued positive booking trend. Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, noted that “for domestic travel in Norway, the number of passengers is on par with pre-pandemic levels. Also, more than nine out of ten flights arrived on time or within fifteen minutes of their scheduled time.”

The airline said it carried 1,315,924 passengers during December, 41 percent more than in December 2021. The average load factor in December was 77.8 percent: capacity was 2.12 billion seat-kilometers, while actual passenger traffic was 1.65 billion seat-kilometers. In December, Norwegian operated an average of 64 aircraft and completed 99.0 percent of scheduled flights with an on-time performance of 71.6 percent.

Overall, 2022 has been a very good year for Norwegian. Strong travel demand, particularly to and from beach destinations, resulted in a record summer of activity. We continue to experience positive booking trends and flight sales are, at this point, exceeding our expectations. Our customers have responded,” Karlsen continued.

In recent months, Norwegian consolidated its recovery on the back of “continued strong demand” for travel. “We are well positioned to respond to seasonal variations,” Karlsen said. In 2022, the airline carried nearly 18 million passengers -a three-fold increase over the previous year- with a load factor of 83.1%.
