Air Canada and United Airlines Team Up to Expand Cross-Border Services for 2023 Summer

Air Canada and United will strengthen their cross-border capacity for the 2023 summer season, including new services between Washington – Dulles (IAD) and Western Canada.

Both airlines will optimize their schedules (subject to applicable government and regulatory conditions) and have added more flights, to offer more than 80 cross-border codeshare routes and more than 260 daily operations.

New service to Washington – Dulles (IAD)

Vancouver (YVR)

It begins June 1 and will be operated by Air Canada on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a 169-seat capacity (16 Signature Class/153 Economy). The Canadian airline also connects to the U.S. capital from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL).

  • Vancouver – Washington Flight AC 1036 YVR 13:30 – IAD 19:54 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Washington – Vancouver Flight AC 1037 IAD 17:10 – YVR 20:01 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Calgary (YYC)

Starts June 2 and will be operated by United Airlines on 126-seat Airbus A319 aircraft (12 First Class/36 Economy Plus/78 Economy). The Chicago-based carrier connects to Alberta’s main provincial city from all its hubs in San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Newark (EWR).

  • Washington – Calgary Flight UA 2221 IAD 09:00 – YYC 11:59 daily flights.
  • Calgary – Washington Flight UA 1125 YYC 13:30 – IAD 19:54 daily flights.

Cross-border scheduling

The two airlines will operate more than 260 daily operations between Canada and the United States for the summer of 2023, this represents a 20% increase compared to the previous year’s season. The schedule will include 120 daily flights between the airlines’ major markets.

Both carriers will provide coordinated schedules between United and Air Canada hubs, offering convenient connections for customers. The airlines have strengthened operations on their main trunk routes with 29 daily operations between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) – Newark (EWR) and Chicago (ORD), and 11 daily flights between Vancouver (YVR) and San Francisco (SFO).

United and Air Canada will also offer increased connectivity between the United States and Western Canada with nine daily flights between Vancouver (YVR) and Newark (EWR), Houston (IAH) and Chicago (ORD); seven daily operations between Los Angeles (LAX) and Vancouver (YVR); a second daily flight will be added on routes between Calgary (YYC) with Houston (IAH) and Chicago (ORD) and a second daily operation between Edmonton (YEG) and Denver (DEN).

The airlines’ summer schedule also offers increased cross-border service between the U.S. and Western Canada. There will be nine daily flights between Vancouver (YVR) and New York/Newark, Houston (IAH) and Chicago (ORD), and seven daily flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Vancouver (YVR). A second daily flight will be added between Calgary (YYC) with Chicago (ORD) and Houston (IAH), and a second daily flight between Edmonton (YEG) and Denver (DEN).
