Air India resumes flights between Delhi and Vienna

On February 20 Air India resumed non-stop operations between Delhi (DEL) and Vienna (DEL), as part of its continued global expansion. The carrier’s last connection in the Austrian capital was in March 2020.

Flight AI 153 was operated on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with registration VT-ANV, which took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) at 15:02 local time and landed at Vienna International Airport (VIE) at 18:43, after eight hours and eleven minutes.

“Vienna is once again directly connected to Delhi. The resumption of direct flights operated from Vienna to India’s capital region has now been secured by Air India, which represents a gratifying success. India is among the world’s largest economies and Delhi is the country’s most important business hub,” said Julian Jäger, CEO and joint COO of Vienna Airport.

Itinerary

  • Delhi – Vienna Flight AI 153 DEL 14:35 – VIE 18:45 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Vienna – Delhi Flight AI 154 FRI 20:15 – DEL 08:05+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The route will be operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft with a capacity of 256 passengers in two classes (18 Business Class/238 Economy).

This non-stop service allows travelers from India to have access to other popular destinations around Vienna, such as Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. In addition, this route aims to cater to the VFR (Friends and/or Family Visiting) market between Austria and India and provide European customers with convenient connections to the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, East Asia and Australia.

Air India’s European network offers flights to Birmingham (BHX), Paris (CDG), Copenhagen (CPH), Frankfurt (FRA), London – Heathrow (LHR), Milan – Malpensa (MXP). Vienna (VIE) and from March 1 resumes non-stop services to Copenhagen (CPH). The carrier will have an offering of 17,920 seats per week between India and Europe on 70 operations.

“The relaunch of our Delhi-Vienna non-stop flights is an important step forward in our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, which, among other things, aims to strengthen Air India’s global network. The Delhi-Vienna route will further help the growing traffic between India and Austria, given the strong and growing trade and investment relations between the two countries,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer, Air India.

Vienna International Airport’s (VIE) Asia-Pacific destination offering continues to expand as countries relax their sanitary restrictions. Currently, Austria’s main airport is connected with non-stop flights to Delhi, India (DEL), Taipei, Taiwan (TPE), Seoul, South Korea (ICN), Bangkok, Thailand (BKK) and Shanghai – Pudong, China (PVG).
