Avianca launches Quito – New York flights and plans to add new destinations from Ecuador

Avianca Ecuador announced that it will fly between Quito (UIO) and New York (JFK) starting on June 1st, its second connection between Ecuador and the United States.

The airline will operate five flights per week on Airbus A320 aircraft, offering 7,000 seats per month, making it the only company to fly non-stop between Mariscal Sucre and John F. Kennedy airports.

«We are focused on consolidating our offer to the destinations that Ecuadorian passengers prefer. New York is one of them and now we are adding the option of flying there directly from Quito as well, since we have been flying from Guayaquil since 2021 with very good load factors,» said María Beatriz González, Avianca’s Commercial Manager for Ecuador.

«We start the sale with a promotional fare from Quito that goes from USD338 each way, including taxes while maintaining the Vuela a Tu Medida (Fly Tailor Made) scheme that allows customers to choose and pay only for what they are going to occupy on their trip,» she added.

Itinerary

  • Quito – New York flight AV 7396 UIO 17:00 – 00:10 JFK / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • New York – Quito flight AV 7397 JFK 01:30 – 06:40 UIO / Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Quito will be the ninth city that Avianca connects with New York after Bogota, Medellin, San Salvador, Guatemala, Guayaquil; Cartagena starting on March, and Quito, Cali and Pereira starting on June.

Open skies in Ecuador

«New York is one of Ecuadorians’ favourite destinations, and of course it will also allow us to strengthen inbound tourism and bring Ecuadorians living in and around the city closer to the country,» said Ramón Miró, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport.

The United States is one of the main emitters of tourists to Ecuador, so the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, said that the opening of this new route will attract a large number of Americans who see the country as an ideal destination for their holidays, and at the same time will help connect Ecuadorians living in New York with their country.

In November 2022, Ecuador and the United States signed a new bilateral agreement that establishes an open skies policy, allowing for an increase in new frequencies between the two destinations.

According to the Cirium platform, the US-Ecuador market is largely dominated by US airlines, with 82.6% of the offer (in ASK), while Avianca and LATAM account for the remaining 17.4%.
