Ethiopian Cargo has added a new operation between the city of Xiamen, China, and Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile. The company will thus operate two weekly flights between the eastern country and the southern tip of the American continent, with a technical stopover at its base in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
Ethiopian, Africa’s largest carrier, also plans to start two weekly cargo flights between Shenzhen and Liege from February 17. On all these routes the carrier will deploy its Boeing 777 Freighters.
Commenting on the launch of the new flights, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said, «We are pleased that our Cargo subsidiary will be able to expand our reach in China with the addition of Xiamen and Shenzhen to the global network. These flights will contribute to improving connectivity between China, Africa, Europe and South America. Ethiopian Airlines will continue to expand its services worldwide by opening new routes and increasing flight frequencies in order to facilitate global trade and the flow of goods.»

Ethiopian launches these new flights as it marks the 50th anniversary of the start of its passenger service to China. Xiamen and Shenzhen join Ethiopian’s extensive network in the country. The airline will thus fly to eight destinations: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Wuhan, and Chengdu. In addition to cargo services, Ethiopian currently operates four passenger flights: Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.
Ethiopian flies to more than 130 destinations worldwide, utilizing both belly hold capacity and its 68 dedicated cargo services. Its fleet consists of Boeing 737, 767-300, 777, 787, Airbus A350-900, and Bombardier Dash 8-400. Ethiopian is currently implementing a 15-year strategic plan called Vision 2035, which it hopes will make it one of the 20 most competitive airlines in the world.
