On February 1 Porter Airlines began operations with its new Embraer E195-E2, flying from Toronto – Pearson (YYZ) to Ottawa (YOW) and Montreal (YYZ). The company is North America’s first operator of the Brazilian manufacturer E2 Series.
The first service was flight PD 155 which was operated in the aircraft with the registration C-GKQM, which took off from Lester Pearson International Airport (YYZ) at 07:33 local time and landed at Ottawa Airport (YOW) at 08:11, after 38 minutes.
The addition of the E195-E2s on these routes will complement Dash 8-400 operations at Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ), offering passengers greater options for flying to the greater Toronto area.
Porter plans to focus its regional flights through Billy Bishop (YTZ) and other major North American destinations from Pearson Airport (YYZ), optimizing its Toronto services.
In addition to the new routes to Ottawa (YOW) and Montreal (YYZ), the Canadian airline will also offer nonstop service from Toronto – Pearson (YYZ) to Vancouver (YVR) starting Feb. 7, Calgary (YYC) begins Feb. 22 and Halifax (YHZ) begins Feb. 23.
The carrier plans to make more new route announcements as it consolidates its network with the E195-E2s. The Canadian airline intends to connect key eastern Canadian cities (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax) with the West Coast, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Porter’s Embraer E195-E2 has a 132-seat capacity in a single economy class configuration and offers free Wi-Fi for all passengers. The airline will offer an exclusive in-flight service, known as PorterReserve, and on long flights will offer an enhanced catering menu.
