A day after the attempted robbery occurred in Santiago (Chile) airport, Delta released a statement in which confirms that its Airbus A350-941 was not hit by gunfire in the exchange that led to the death of two men, one robber and one security officer.
«Our hearts go out to the loved ones of those affected by today’s sad events at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport and Delta will work closely with all aviation stakeholders as these events are investigated. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and our people,» the carrier said in the statement.
Also, the company refuted initial reports that indicated that the aircraft was affected by the shooting: as it affirms that the A350 «was thoroughly examined and was confirmed to be undamaged.» and that it was able to fly back to Atlanta without altering its scheduled operation.
Additionally, Delta confirmed that no injuries to Delta staff or passengers were reported and that the company «will defer specific questions about reports of gunfire on another aircraft to law enforcement.»
