The Algerian government has approved the purchase of fifteen new aircraft to modernise and expand the fleet of the state-owned carrier Air Algérie.
Last year, Abdelmadjid Tebboun, president of the North African country, approved a plan to increase the airline’s route network, especially in Africa and Asia. The world’s two largest aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing, won the tender launched by the administration.
The European company will sell seven planes to the Algerian airline, while the American company will supply the remaining eight.

Air Algérie to add fifteen new Airbus and Boeing aircraft
Air Algérie published a provisional award notice. According to the document, the carrier will acquire five Airbus A330-900 and two A350-1000. It will also add eight Boeing 737 MAX 9.
However, the final award of the contract has yet to be finalised, so an expected delivery date for the aircraft cannot yet be known. The company did not disclose the amount of the contracts.
In the meantime, it will use leasing arrangements for two aircraft to reinforce its capacity during this year’s northern summer season.
In addition, Air Algérie will add ten aircraft under operating leases in the coming months: four Airbus A330-200, two A330-900, two Boeing 737-800 and two 737-900. According to company sources quoted by the digital media TSA, they will operate for a maximum period of five years, while the airline awaits deliveries from Airbus and Boeing.
