Viva Aerobus, the Mexican low-cost carrier, has announced its expansion plans in the Mexican domestic and international markets during the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turistico held in Mexico. The airline will add two new international routes to Colombia and Ecuador in the coming months, five new domestic routes, and will also increase frequencies on three existing routes. Furthermore, the airline has signed tourism agreements with several Mexican states.

Viva Aerobus has signed agreements to fly to several Mexican states, including Baja California, Guerrero, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, La Paz, Querétaro, Sinaloa, Yucatán, and Guanajuato. The airline continues to grow in South America after inaugurating flights to Bogotá, Colombia, from Cancún and Mexico City in 2021. In October 2022, Viva Aerobus also added Guadalajara from the Colombian capital.

Starting June 8, the airline will operate two weekly flights between Monterrey, Nuevo León, and Bogotá, with its Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, which have a seating capacity of 186 and 240 passengers, respectively. The airline will also land in Ecuador, operating three weekly flights between Cancún and Quito starting from June 13.

For the upcoming summer season, the airline will launch new beach destinations, including Cancún, Querétaro, and Toluca, from San José del Cabo in Baja California Sur. The new routes do not have any competition and add to the airline’s existing network of destinations from Los Cabos, which includes Mexico City, Culiacán, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Monterrey, San José del Cabo, Tijuana, and Toluca.

In addition, Viva Aerobus will connect La Paz with Mazatlán with two weekly flights from June 8 to August 26. The airline has also resumed its seasonal flights to Cozumel and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, with two weekly flights between June and August and in July and August, respectively. The airline will also resume operations to Mexicali from June 1, with six weekly flights.

According to Cirium, starting in May, Monterrey will become Viva Aerobus’ main base in terms of the number of destinations and frequencies. The airline will offer between 430,000 and 520,000 seats per month in 2,000 operations.

Viva Aerobus currently offers 31 domestic and eight international destinations, including flights to Colombia, Cuba, and the United States. The airline will also increase its frequencies to Cancún, Monterrey, and Mérida from Toluca International Airport, which serves the metropolitan area of Mexico City, starting from May.
