Wamos Air to operate Avianca flights on routes to the United States and Spain

Avianca signed an agreement for Wamos Air to operate its Bogota (BOG) – Los Angeles (LAX) route and the new seasonal service San Salvador (SAL) – Madrid (MAD). With this move, the company seeks to increase capacity on existing services and provide an expanded route network.

During the grounding of Avianca’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the Spanish airline operated several of its long-haul services to Spain under wet lease, allowing it to comply with scheduled itineraries without affecting customers.

Information on the Bogota (BOG) – Los Angeles (LAX) route

As the Colombian airline prepares to add more Boeing 787 aircraft to its fleet, the company will operate a wet lease with Wamos Air on the Bogota (BOG) – Los Angeles (LAX) route between April 20 and October 28. This service will be operated on Airbus A330-200 aircraft with a capacity of 241 in two classes (34 Business/207 Economy).

Customers who have already booked on these flights have been informed of the change of operator and it is important to note that:

  • The airline will provide the same food and beverage menu, as well as in-flight comfort items.
  • The entertainment system will be available and additional services purchased in advance will be honored.
  • The route itinerary will not change and the same number of flights will be maintained.

Route information San Salvador (SAL) – Madrid (MAD)

The new seasonal route will be available between June 20 and September 20 of this year, with a schedule of three weekly flights operated by Airbus A330-200 with a capacity of 280 passengers in two classes (20 Business/260 Economy). This connection will be the company’s first non-stop service between Central America and Europe.

Avianca contracted the services of Wamos Air, a company specialized in charter and wet lease flights, for this route. The scheduling of this service is subject to government approval.
