On May 1, Aeromexico launched the first commercial passenger service between Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) and the U.S. with a non-stop flight to Houston (IAH). In addition, the eagle knight airline is also the first carrier to fly from AIFA to the United States.

Flight AM 2780 was operated on an Aeromexico Connect Embraer 190 registered XA-AEM, which took off from Felipe Angeles International Airport (NLU) at 15:31 local time and landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) at 18:11, after one hour and 40 minutes.

This route was approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a transfer of Aeromexico’s operations in the Houston-Mexico City segment. Currently, the Aztec country remains under CAT II by the FAA, which prevents Mexican operators from launching new services to the United States.

- Mexico City – Houston Flight AM 2780 NLU 15:10 – IAH 18:10 daily flights.
- Houston – Mexico City Flight AM 2781 IAH 07:40 – NLU 09:00 daily flights.
The route is operated by Embraer E190 aircraft with a capacity of 99 seats in two classes (11 Clase Premier/88 Economy) and promotional fares are available from 110 USD each way. In addition, Aeromexico also offers two daily flights between Houston (IAH) and Mexico City International Airport (AICM) operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
This new service allows passengers to connect to the airline’s domestic network at AIFA, which has flights to Acapulco (ACA), Cancun (CUN), Guadalajara (GDL), Merida (MID), Monterrey (MTY), Oaxaca (OAX), Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and Veracruz (VER).
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), 879,133 passengers and 389.6 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2019 between Houston and Mexico City. Aeromexico currently has an offer of 5,866 weekly seats in this segment according to Cirium and competes with United Airlines, Viva Aerobus and Volaris.
The international network at Felipe Angeles Airport (NLU) has nonstop service to Panama – Tocumen (PTY); Havana, Cuba (HAV); Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ); Caracas, Venezuela (CCS) and Houston – Intercontinental, United States (IAH).
