Air Algérie to receive eight Boeing 737 MAX 9 from 2027
The first aircraft is expected to join the airline in 2027. However, no further details on the planned delivery schedule or the total amount of the deal have yet been announced.
In 2022, Abdelmadjid Tebboun, Algeria’s president, approved a forward-looking plan to increase the state-owned carrier’s route network, especially in Africa and Asia, as well as to add new aircraft. In May of that year, the purchase of fifteen aircraft was approved to gradually replace those currently available.
Finally, in April 2023, it was announced that Airbus and Boeing, the two largest aircraft manufacturers in the world, had won the tender launched by the administration. The European company would sell seven aircraft to the Algerian airline, while the American company would supply the remaining eight.
Fifteen new aircraft
In addition to the narrow-body aircraft ordered from Boeing, the carrier will acquire five Airbus A330-900 and two A350-1000. Meanwhile, it will use leasing arrangements for two aircraft to bolster its capacity during this year’s northern summer season.
Air Algérie is also expected to add ten aircraft under operating leases in the coming months: four Airbus A330-200, two A330-900, two Boeing 737-800 and two 737-900. According to company sources quoted by digital media TSA, they will operate for a maximum period of five years, while the airline awaits the rest of the deliveries.
