Escribano Acquires 3% of Indra, Reinforcing Its Role in Spain’s Defense Industry

The Spanish company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering has acquired 3% of Indra, one of Spain’s leading technology and consulting multinationals, in a transaction valued at over 65 million euros. This move positions Escribano as the second industrial partner in Indra and strengthens its presence in the Defense sector in Spain.

The acquisition of Indra shares is interpreted by Escribano as a bet on the solidity of the Spanish Defense industry. This is a strategic and advanced sector that plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of Spain, and in which Escribano is committed to contributing its expertise.

Escribano’s transformation and growth

Founded in 1989 by Ángel Escribano as a small machining workshop, Escribano has experienced a remarkable transformation and growth over the years. Under the direction of the founder’s two sons, Ángel and Javier Escribano, the company has experienced significant expansion, increasing its workforce from 80 to 700 employees in the last decade. By 2023, the company estimates a turnover of 140 million euros, with a presence in more than 20 countries.

Vision of vertical integration and R&D

Escribano’s growth is attributed to its vision of vertical integration of its manufacturing capabilities, implemented in 2010. The company’s strategy has been to strengthen its R&D by incorporating engineers and technical profiles to control the entire production process. Currently, Escribano designs and manufactures its products entirely at its facilities in Alcalá de Henares.

Collaboration with the academic sector

Escribano’s workforce is composed of more than 700 employees, 40% of whom are women, and the majority are engineers and technicians, with an average age of between 30 and 35 years. To achieve this level of specialization, the company has established close collaboration with the academic sector, creating synergies with universities and vocational training centers in the Community of Madrid.

Construction of the Technological Center in Alcalá de Henares

Escribano has also started the construction of its future Technological Center in Alcalá de Henares, which aims to be a benchmark in R&D. This center will be the base for joint initiatives with the University of Alcalá de Henares and other vocational training centers in the Community of Madrid, with which Escribano has recently signed collaboration agreements in training and research.
