This latest addition to EVA Air’s fleet, the first to feature the Star Alliance livery, completed its maiden ferry flight on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Currently, EVA Air operates a fleet of 12 Dreamliner 787-9 and 787-10 variants, with orders for 12 additional units pending.

Ferry Flight and Initial Operations

After a 17-hour flight from Charleston Airport, the Dreamliner touched down at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) at 14:00 local time on May 7, 2023. The aircraft has since commenced commercial operations, servicing routes in the Asia-Pacific region, including destinations like Hong Kong (HKG), Tokyo – Narita (NRT), and Osaka – Kansai (KIX).

«EVA has been a proud Star Alliance member since June 2013. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re marking the occasion with special events and programs,» said Clay Sun, President of EVA Air. Having joined the Star Alliance on June 18, 2023, EVA Air has since leveraged the global network, reaching over 1,200 airports in 184 countries, to expand its footprint in the business travel market. This collaboration has bolstered EVA’s passenger operations revenue by nearly 5% annually, and increased international corporate client contracts.

Commitment to Sustainable Aviation

In a pioneering move, the ferry flight of B-17812 from South Carolina utilized 30% SAF, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 70,000 kilograms. This also marked the highest proportion of SAF used in Taiwan’s aviation industry, underscoring EVA’s commitment to achieving Net Zero and implementing fuel-saving measures. «This latest delivery of the 787-10, featuring the distinctive Star Alliance colors and using sustainable aviation fuel, symbolizes our strong ties with the Star Alliance and our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050,» Sun added.
