As we previously announced, JetSMART and American Airlines have begun selling tickets through their codeshare agreement for domestic flights of the former in Chile. This marks the first step towards domestic ticket sales in other JetSMART subsidiaries across South America, as the next strategic move of the company is to venture into the domestic market in Peru.
Ticket sales for flights between the United States and Chile began on June 1, granting access to the global route network of American Airlines from JetSMART destinations, initially connecting with Chilean cities such as Santiago, Antofagasta, Concepcion, and Puerto Montt. The partnership provides a comprehensive benefits program for customers of both airlines.
This partnership promises a broader route network and anticipates granting JetSMART customers access to American Airlines’ AAdvantage loyalty program. The alliance stems from American’s minority investment in JetSMART.
Tickets can be purchased on the American Airlines website, aa.com, or through American Reservations, with initial flights beginning on June 15. In the coming weeks, ticket sales will expand to cover additional regions in Chile and Peru. The partnership aims to unify American’s global presence with JetSMART’s complementary network in South America, offering competitive rates and extended options for travelers across the continent.
JetSMART plans to join the AAdvantage loyalty program by the end of 2023, allowing JetSMART and American customers to benefit from special offers, promotions, and mile accrual in several South American markets.
«American has established strategic partnerships with airlines worldwide to offer our valued customers a wide range of options to suit their needs, whether they travel for business, leisure, or a combination of both,» said Scott Laurence, Senior Vice President of Alliance Strategy at American Airlines. «The alliance with JetSMART will allow American to expand its long-haul service between the United States and Latin America, granting access to our flights, our network, and the AAdvantage® travel rewards program to more travelers in South America.»
For Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSMART, this alliance seeks to fulfill the promise of bringing air transport to all corners of South America. «From the outset, we have innovated in the industry, offering ultra-low fares and new routes. Today, we announce another step in this revolution by making history with the initiation of an alliance between JetSMART and American Airlines.»
«Our customers will be able to accrue miles and fly on the JetSMART network, connecting to American Airlines’ global network. As the fastest-growing airline in South America, this alliance strengthens us and positions us to achieve our vision of reaching 100 million passengers and 100 aircraft by 2028,» he added.
