Avianca expands its long-haul offer with the start of the seasonal San Salvador – Madrid route and expects to transport more than 6,700 travelers per month. For the first time, the company will have non-stop service between Central America and Europe, in addition to new connections to the United States and Mexico.
The inaugural flight ceremony was attended on June 20 by Federico Anliker López, President of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA); Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador; Miguel Angel García, Ambassador of Spain in El Salvador; Manuel Ambriz, Commercial Executive Director of Avianca; airport personnel and local press.
Passengers were greeted with decorative banners at Avianca’s check-in counters in Terminal 4 of Adolfo Suarez Airport, followed by the traditional ribbon cutting at the boarding gate. They also gave gifts to passengers inside the aircraft.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadísticas, 71,062 passengers and 2,830 tons of cargo were moved between Madrid and San Salvador in 239 operations. Avianca currently competes in this segment with Iberia, which offers six flights a week operated on Airbus A330-300s.

- The service will be available until September 21, 2023.
The route is operated by Wamos Air on Airbus A330-200 aircraft with 280 seats in two classes (20 Business Class/260 Economy) and promotional fares are available from EUR 1,175 round trip.
In addition to its operations between San Salvador and the Spanish capital, the airline also offers non-stop flights from Bogota, Medellin and Cali to Madrid. In total, the airline has a schedule of 39 weekly flights to Adolfo Suarez Airport with 19,740 seats per week.
Avianca is the leading Latin American airline in Spain in terms of seats per seat kilometer offered (ASK) according to Cirium. In 2022, the airline moved 760,005 passengers and 18,658.7 tons of cargo to and from Spain in 3,352 operations according to Aena Estadísticas.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid – Barajas Airport is one of the main entry points for tourists in Spain and the connecting gateway between Europe and Latin America. Around 28% of flights between the Old Continent and Latin America are made from the Madrid airport.
