Aerolíneas Argentinas, the state-owned airline of Argentina, has officially opened a tender process for the acquisition of 12 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. This move is expected to modernize and expand its regional jet fleet. The request for proposals (RFP) phase, the first stage of the acquisition process, is aimed at interested providers of these jets, with expected delivery between 2024 and 2026.
According to the airline’s requirements, it prefers to have two aircraft delivered in 2024, five in 2025, and five in 2026. However, the carrier is also open to other delivery schedules depending on the bidding company’s availability.
The tender allows both leasing companies and the aircraft manufacturer to present financial consortium proposals for providing the necessary equipment.
About the Embraer E195-E2
The Embraer E195-E2, a Brazilian medium-range jet aircraft, is a popular choice among regional airlines due to its efficient performance and advanced design. With a maximum capacity of up to 146 passengers, it provides a balance between capacity and cost-effectiveness, making it ideal for the regional routes that Aerolíneas Argentinas aims to expand.
Fleet Modernization and Expansion
Aerolíneas Argentinas seeks to leverage the supplier to renew its regional airplane fleet, thus broadening the route options for its passengers while maintaining comfort and safety. The Argentine carrier currently owns a fleet of 26 Embraer E190-E1s, some of which will be replaced by the newer E195-E2 model.
The move is in line with the airline’s strategic plan to improve the efficiency of its regional operations and boost passenger experience. This update of aircraft will ensure a quieter, more comfortable flight and provide more route options for passengers, along with better economics and performance.
In February this year, Aerolíneas Argentinas’ CEO Pablo Ceriani told Aviacionline that the company was looking for both E195-E2 and Airbus A330-900 to modernize and upgrade the fleet. This step is the first one in a plan that could be a significant win for the airline and the manufacturer, securing another big E2 customer in the region.
