On July 14, the Authority for Social Control and Supervision of Telecommunications and Transport (ATT) of Bolivia issued a resolution prohibiting Amaszonas, also known as Amas Airlines, from pre-selling tickets for its Santa Cruz – Asunción route. This decision arises amidst a dispute with an aircraft leasing company and raises concerns about the airline’s operations.
Néstor Ríos, the executive director of ATT, highlighted the authority’s commitment to protect passengers’ rights and stated that Amaszonas has been given a 20-day deadline to address issues with the leasing company. The specific details of the dispute have not been revealed, as reported by Aeroin.
In response to ATT’s resolution, AMAS issued a statement announcing the suspension of ticket sales for a period of 20 days, starting from September 26, 2023. Currently, the company is operating four weekly flights with its Embraer 190 between Santa Cruz de la Sierra (VVI) and Asunción (ASU), Paraguay.
Amaszonas will focus on its domestic flights and Chile
Amaszonas is instructed to prioritize domestic flights and the aim is to guarantee the quality and continuity of the service, in addition to protecting passengers’ rights. Once the situation with the aircraft leasing company is resolved, the ATT’s decision may be extended or suspended, depending on a report from the entity.
According to Ch-Aviation, the dispute revolves around two Embraer 190 aircraft leased to CBD Aviation with registration CP-3142 and CP 3145. Currently, Amaszonas has six Embraer 190 aircraft in total, of which only three are in service.
Besides Paraguay, Amas flies to Sucre (SRE), La Paz (LPB), Cochabamba (CBB), and Iquique (IQQ), Chile. Compared to the year 2019, Amaszonas’s network of destinations has experienced a significant reduction. Previously, the airline operated flights to Trinidad, Riberalta, Chimore, Guayaramerin, Rurrenabaque, Uyuni, and Foz do Iguacu.
