Edelweiss Grows Long-Haul Fleet with New Airbus A340-300
Edelweiss receives its fifth Airbus A340-300 from the Swiss Air fleet, with a history of 20 years. This new acquisition will boost the company’s capability for long-haul flights from its base in Zurich.
The fifth A340 will be christened «Flumserberg» on the upcoming September 1st, a date on which the Zurich airport will celebrate its 75th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, the Airport Festival will take place.
The HB-JMC was delivered to Swiss on October 6, 2003, and its cabin has been reconfigured to carry up to 314 passengers in two classes. Currently, the Edelweiss long-haul fleet consists exclusively of Airbus A340-300 aircraft, having previously operated the A330-200 and A330-300 models.
In addition to its long-haul fleet, Edelweiss has 13 Airbus A320 ceo, which complement its short and medium-haul services.
Edelweiss was founded on October 19, 1995, in Bassersdorf, Switzerland. It began its operations with a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft and later came to own a total of three aircraft of the same model. In 1998, it incorporated the first Airbus A320s to replace the MD-83s and, in 1999, received its first A330-200 for performing the initial long-haul routes.
