Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) has unveiled its new flagship aircraft – the first of its 25 Boeing 737-8 models, all set to be delivered by August 2023. This reveal, part of Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) fleet modernization strategy, is a blend of high-tech amenities, design, and a nod to Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

The livery of the new 737-8 aircraft has been entirely reimagined to encapsulate the vision and aspirations of Malaysia Airlines as the national carrier. The airline’s ‘wau’ logo, a symbol of Malaysian pride, has been repositioned, echoing the carrier’s resolute optimism and dynamic energy for the future.

The logo is adorned with a songket motif in gold hues, a tribute to Malaysia’s cultural heritage and the airline’s commitment to its role as a global ambassador for the nation. As with its recently refurbished B737-800 NG aircraft, the 737-8 will also be equipped with Malaysia Airlines’ wireless In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system, MHstudio.

Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), expressed the company’s excitement about the imminent launch. “We are thrilled to present our passengers with a truly immersive and memorable journey that showcases our national pride and commitment to delivering exceptional travel experiences.”

“The introduction of our new 737-8 aircraft sets a new standard in air travel, combining the best of Malaysian culture, advanced technology, and sustainable practices to create an unparalleled flying experience,” Azmi added.

By 2026, the airline plans to gradually expand its 737-8 fleet to a total of 25 aircraft. Currently, the MAG group, which includes subsidiaries Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and MASkargo, boasts a fleet of 100 aircraft.
