United Airlines is doubling its operations on the Newark – Delhi route with a new daytime departure for the northern winter season. All services to India offer connections to the airline’s extensive network of 200 U.S. destinations.
All United flights to Delhi are operated on 257-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft (48 Polaris Business Class/21 Premium Plus/39 Economy Plus/149 Economy) and promotional fares are available at $1,802 USD roundtrip.
United flight schedules to Delhi

- Newark – Delhi Flight UA 082 EWR 09:40 – DEL 11:10+1 daily flights.
- Delhi – Newark Flight UA 083 DEL 13:15 – EWR 19:40 daily flights.
New service starting October 28, 2023:
- Newark – Delhi Flight UA 816 EWR 20:15 – DEL 21:50+1 daily flights.
- Delhi – Newark Flight UA 817 DEL 23:55 – EWR 06:20+1 daily flights.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Department of Transportation (DOT), 866,530 passengers were mobilized between the U.S. and Delhi in 2021. This segment was the tenth largest long-haul market in the United States.
United’s growth in India halted by Ukraine-Russia war
In 2005, Continental (now merged with United) first landed in India with a non-stop service between Newark and Delhi operated on Boeing 777-200ER, then in 2007 started another route to Mumbai, since then the company established itself as the leading U.S. airline operator in the market to India.
Subsequently, United in December 2019 it launched its first service from the U.S. West Coast to India with a non-stop connection between San Francisco and Delhi, the first U.S. airline to do so. As part of its continued growth, it launched the Chicago O’Hare – Delhi route in December 2020 to meet strong VFR (friends and/or family visiting) demand.
As a result of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, multiple airlines stopped using Russian airspace which affected their scheduling on several of their Asian routes. United was forced to reduce capacity between Newark and Delhi by switching from 350-seat Boeing 777-300ERs to 257-seat Boeing 787-9s, suspend its San Francisco – Delhi, Chicago O’Hare – Delhi, Newark – Mumbai services and permanently cancel its plans for the San Francisco – Bangalore route.
In total, United reduced its seat capacity between India and the United States by 77%, operating only Newark – Delhi on Boeing 787-9s, with no option to fly the Boeing 777-300ER due to Russian space constraints that make it unprofitable to operate this aircraft on this route.
United began a codeshare partnership with Emirates to expand its services in the Middle East, Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Recently, Indian authorities did not allow both airlines to sell tickets between India and the United States through the alliance because it was not provided for in the bilateral agreement between India and the United Arab Emirates.
As part of these limitations to recover some of its capacity to India, the airline scheduled a second daily flight between Newark and Delhi.
