Aerolíneas Argentinas, the flag carrier airline of Argentina, recently disclosed initial figures from its winter operation, marking a noteworthy 52% year-on-year increase in foreign tourists. The company reported that 75,000 international visitors travelled to the country in July, largely driven by Brazilian tourists.

Significant Surge from Brazil

The carrier reported a remarkable surge in foreign tourists with over 40,000 visitors from Brazil, marking a 36% increase compared to the previous year.

The route from São Paulo to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, Buenos Aires’ downtown airport, contributed more than 16,000 visitors. This was closely followed by the Rio de Janeiro-Aeroparque route, which brought in 10,000 tourists. Other notable contributions came from Porto Alegre, Curitiba, and Brasilia.

The airline also experienced robust tourist numbers on direct flights from São Paulo to major tourist destinations like Bariloche, San Martín de Los Andes, and Ushuaia.

Apart from Brazil, Aerolíneas Argentinas saw a 77% increase in tourists from other regions, the United States, and Europe, with 33,000 tourists taking their flights.

The main route was Santiago de Chile-Aeroparque, bringing over 10,000 visitors to Argentina. Other important routes included Montevideo, Miami, Lima, Madrid, and Asunción, with notable contributions from Bogotá, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and New York.

A Record Year Ahead for Aerolíneas Argentinas

According to Pablo Ceriani, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, this strong performance across various indicators, including passengers transported and connectivity, signals a record year for the company. “”We currently operate a robust operation with a broad offering that provides the country with the connectivity it needs. Aerolíneas is growing because we have a serious and responsible project.”

“This is evident in every indicator, be it economic, financial, passengers transported, routes, connectivity, and punctuality. This will be a record year for the company,” said Ceriani.

For July 2023, Aerolíneas Argentinas has expanded its offerings to include 151 weekly flights from across the region, with 65 flights operated from Brazil.
