After receiving their first of two Embraer E175s just a few days ago, the new boutique airline of Bermuda, BermudAir, launched the sale of flights on its first three routes connecting the archipelago with the east coast of the United States.
On August 31, the company will start flying from the L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda (BDA) to Boston and to Westchester County airport, located north of the New York metropolitan area, serving as an alternative access point to the Big Apple. The first service will operate six flights a week, while the second will also be six times a week.
Furthermore, on September 22, the inaugural flight between Bermuda and Fort Lauderdale, Florida will take off, a destination that will also be served with six flights a week.
The company stands out for exclusively offering Business Class to cater to the high-income market visiting Bermuda. In this initial phase, their Embraer E175s have 88 seats, of which they will only sell 44, all aisle or window. However, a significant upgrade will come from November 1st when they start operating the E175s configured with only 30 suite-seats, all with extra storage space, power outlets, and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, onboard catering service is included, as well as at least one checked luggage at no extra cost.
«We are excited to launch BermudAir as Bermuda’s first carrier, maintaining our commitment to start filling seasonal service gaps and establish frequency of service to and from the island this fall,» said Adam Scott, founder and CEO of the boutique airline, who also founded Odyssey to operate 100% business flights between New York and London City Airport.
The CEO of Bermuda’s Tourism Authority, Tracy Berkley, stated that the launch of regular flights by BermudAir aligns with the goal of the national tourism plan to combat seasonality.
The airline also aims to promote employment in Bermuda, with six of its 18 cabin crew members being locals.
Flights in Bermuda
On the route connecting Bermuda to the New York metropolitan area, BermudAir will compete with American Airlines (flying at JFK airport), Delta Air Lines (JFK), JetBlue (at LaGuardia), and United Airlines (at Newark), although the last two operate seasonally during the summer.
In Boston, it will face JetBlue year-round, while in Fort Lauderdale it doesn’t have direct competition, only American in Miami.
