Inside Airbus: Exploring the U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, Alabama

On the morning of August 16, we had the opportunity to get to know the Airbus A220 and A320 Final Assembly Line (FAL), which are an integral part of the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility built in Mobile, Alabama. The Airbus team allowed us to tour both production lines, which complement A320 lines in Hamburg (Germany), Tianjin (China), and Toulouse (France), and A220 original line in Mirabel, Canada.

On August 17, JetSMART will receive the first A320neo built here for a South American customer at the Delivery Center. The plant has already delivered to Volaris and will continue to be an interesting alternative for customers in the region, thus avoiding a longer delivery journey with the interoceanic crossing.

The current Airbus A320 assembly line is preparing to produce, once certified, the extra-long-range version: the A321XLR. The company has the global goal of reaching 75 units of the A320 family by 2026, and a second A320 FAL is under construction in Mobile.

The A220 line is currently assembling one aircraft per month in Mobile, but it aims to quadruple that production in the short term.
