LATAM Airlines Consolidates its Position as the Leader in the South America – US West Coast Market

On August 1, Delta Air Lines and LATAM Airlines launched their first joint venture route in the Brazilian market. The new service between São Paulo and Los Angeles marks the return of flights between Brazil and the west coast of the United States. Moreover, LATAM’s network has increased to 22 international destinations.

Flight LA 8086 was operated on a Boeing 777-300 registered as PT-MUA that features the special Star Wars livery. The aircraft took off from Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) at 00:12 and landed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 07:30, after 11 hours and 18 minutes.

Flight Schedule Between São Paulo and Los Angeles

  • São Paulo – Los Angeles Flight LA 8086 GRU 23:20 – LAX 07:30 Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Los Angeles – São Paulo Flight LA 8087 LAX 13:15 – GRU 05:15+1 Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

On the other hand, starting from November 2023, the service will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which can seat 30 passengers in the Premium Business cabin, 57 in Premium Economy, and 213 in Economy.

The launch of this flight between Brazil and the West Coast of the U.S. is the result of the Joint Venture of two global companies that now offer customers simpler and faster travel with the best routes, schedules, and connections“, says Aline Mafra, Director of Sales and Marketing for LATAM Brasil.

LATAM Consolidates its Position in Los Angeles

The largest city in California is the fifth destination of LATAM Airlines in the United States, complementing its services to Miami, Orlando, New York JFK, and Boston. Additionally, Los Angeles will receive flights from all types of widebody aircraft in the airline’s fleet, including Boeing 767, 777, and 787.

The new non-stop connection will be able to transport around 110,000 travelers per year directly between both cities, which represents almost 65% of the number of Brazilian tourists that the Los Angeles Tourism Economic Forecast estimates will visit the city in 2024.

With this new route, the South American airline operates to Los Angeles from its three main hubs in Lima, Santiago, and now São Paulo, consolidating its position as the main air operator between South America and California, ahead of Avianca, which has a daily flight to Los Angeles from Bogotá.

By August, LATAM will have an offer of 10,308 weekly seats from and to the west coast of the United States.

Customers can also connect to multiple destinations on the Delta network in Los Angeles such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Seattle, among others. Similarly, from São Paulo, access to the domestic destination network of LATAM Airlines in Brazil is available.
