Buenos Aires-Ezeiza Airport Doubles Capacity With New Taxiway

This Friday, the inauguration ceremony of the new taxiway to runway 35 of Ezeiza International Airport took place, which represents a significant improvement in its operability.

As detailed by the Nation’s Ministry of Transport through a statement, Ezeiza had an average operational capacity of 15 movements per hour, but with the opening of this taxiway, this figure can be raised to 30.

The taxiway was built with rigid pavement and is 2,280 meters long by 25 wide, connecting to the Delta taxiway that accesses the platform (at its intersection with the Golf taxiway) to runway 35. This will avoid aircraft taxiing 1,600 meters on the runway to clear it for takeoff from runway 35 or landing on runway 17.

With this new taxiway, we strengthen safety, we double the number of flights per hour that can operate in Ezeiza and, in case of problems with the main runway, it can absorb all flights, preventing the airport closure«, said Diego Giuliano, Minister of Transport of the Nation, during the inaugural act.

«This work is added to the other investments we made in this airport such as the installation of the radio beacon, the renovation of the National Digital Communications Center and EANA’s Navigational Aids Laboratory, which is completed and soon to be inaugurated,” he added.

Between January and August of 2023, 6.57 million passengers traveled through Ezeiza International Airport, a figure 66% higher than the same period in 2022 but 24 percentage points below that of 2019, due both to the post-COVID recovery process and the internationalization of Buenos Aires Downtown Airport, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, which led to the transfer of many flights to it.

Regarding aircraft movements, 44,023 operations were recorded, 28% more than between January and August of 2022, but still 28% less than during the same period of 2019.
