SWISS to offer more Premium Economy seats on its new Airbus A350-900s

SWISS has unveiled the seat map for its new Airbus A350-900, which will be introduced by 2025. The new aircraft will have a capacity of 242 passengers, making it one of the least densely configured A350s for the commercial airline market. Also, the airline will offer the largest number of Premium Economy seats on this aircraft, reflecting the increased demand for leisure travel.

SWISS has finalized the specifications for the passenger cabins of the new long-haul twin jets, marking a new milestone in the modernization of its cabins. The airline has calculated the dimensions of each cabin, the layout of the seats, aisles, lavatories and galleys, as well as the number of seats available in each cabin class.

The new Airbus A350-900s will feature the new «SWISS Senses» cabin concept, which will provide SWISS customers with a more personalized travel experience.

More seats in Premium Economy

The new SWISS Airbus A350-900 will seat 242 passengers in four classes: 3 in First Class, 45 in Business Class, 38 in Premium and 156 in Economy.

With 38 seats, the A350-900’s Premium Economy class will be significantly more than the airline’s long-haul aircraft – the current configuration of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A340-300 in this cabin is 24 and 21 seats respectively. With the expansion of Premium Economy, the airline caters to the high demand for air travel in the premium segment, especially among leisure travelers.

«With our new cabin concept, we will remain the only major airline in the world to offer a First Class cabin on all its long-haul aircraft. We will also increase the size of our Premium Economy Class, which has proven to be very popular. In both respects, we continue to clearly position SWISS as the leading premium airline in Europe,» Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Chief Commercial Officer of SWISS.

As it will source its new A350-900 directly from the manufacturer, Swiss has been able to specify its interiors to meet its requirements.

New era: Airbus A350

SWISS will gradually take delivery of five Airbus A350-900s starting in 2024. These new jets will replace the existing fleet of four Airbus A340-300s in the airline’s fleet, bringing the airline’s four-engine era to an end.

The A350 produces 25% less carbon dioxide emissions compared to the aircraft it will replace and is less than half as noisy. Also, the A350 only consumes an average of 2.5 liters of fuel per passenger per 100 kilometers.
