Korean Air has announced an order for an additional 20 Airbus A321neo aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet modernization efforts. This follows their initial order of 30 aircraft, of which they received eight in December of the previous year. This latest order brings the company’s total commitment to the A321neo to 50 units.
Deployment on Key Routes
Korean Air is deploying these next-generation Airbus aircraft on its short to medium-haul routes, primarily targeting destinations in Southeast Asia, China, and Japan.
The A321neo aircraft from Korean Air will be configured to accommodate 182 passengers and will feature 8 business class seats with 180-degree recline. They will be the first among Asian airline fleets to feature the Airbus Airspace cabin interior, and will also provide in-flight Wi-Fi for passenger convenience.
Choosing to further invest in the A321neo aligns with Korean Air’s mission of ensuring high safety standards, operational efficiency, and enhanced passenger satisfaction. Yoo Jong-seok, Vice President of Operations at Korean Air, highlighted the aircraft’s modern design, cutting-edge technology, and spacious cabin. He articulated the airline’s ambition to provide the best travel experience while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions.
Fleet Modernization Plans
In line with its modernization strategy, Korean Air plans to introduce a total of 110 next-generation aircraft, including models such as the Boeing 787-9s, Boeing 787-10s, and Boeing 737-8s. Concurrently, the airline intends to phase out older models, specifically the A330-300 and Boeing 777-200ER fleets.
