Surinam Airways takes delivery of its second Boeing 737
As part of its recovery and aiming to achieve its goal of incorporating new aircraft in its fleet, Surinam Airways contracted its second 737 from AerCap, one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing companies. The deal was finalized on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Now, nearly three months later, Surinam Airways has received the aircraft. The Boeing 737-800, registered under the code PZ-TCX, landed around 02:15 am on Wednesday, September 15, at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. At the controls of the aircraft were two company commanders, Miquel Jap and Jim Laret. The plane had taken off from Marana Airport in Arizona, USA, hours earlier. This unit had previously served with US-Bangla and China United Airlines.

Surinam Airways began operating its first Boeing 737-800 on Monday, January 23, 2023. The airline had received the aircraft in December, also under a leasing arrangement. Before acquiring the 737s, Surinam Airways conducted regional operations with an Airbus A320 registered as 9H-EMU. This equipment had also been leased, in this case, to the Maltese company Airhub Airlines.
Upon arrival in Surinam, the Surinamese aviation authority, CASAS, will finalize the necessary documentation for operating the aircraft. Additionally, the aircraft will need to be registered at each destination served by Surinam Airways. Once the documentation and registrations are in order, the aircraft can enter commercial service.
The arrival of this aircraft will enhance operational flexibility and lay the groundwork for Surinam Airways’ growth. Currently, the airline operates routes only to and from its base in Paramaribo. The destinations served include Georgetown, Miami, Aruba, Curacao, and Amsterdam, the latter using its Airbus A340-300.
