South America was part of Aeroflot’s regular schedule between approximately 1970 and 1990. Argentina, Chile and Uruguay were some of the airline’s markets in the region, being these flights destined to fishing workers.
Operations had different stopovers over the years. Stops were mainly in Europe, Africa and Brazil, with some changes from time to time.

Focusing on 1988, Aeroflot had flights between Moscow and Buenos Aires with stopovers in Algiers, Espargos and Salvador de Bahia. The company operated once a week on two-class Ilyushin Il-86 aircraft.

After suspension in the 1990s, Aeroflot did not resume regular operations between Russia and South America. In 2021 were rumors of a possible return, but it never took place.
