Aeroméxico has initiated the implementation of a tool that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor, anticipate, plan, and respond to the potential impact of extreme weather phenomena on aviation operations. The IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite will enhance the safety measures and operational efficiency of the airline.
Xatrix, a Mexican consulting firm and IBM business partner, is responsible for providing Aeroméxico with this innovative system. The new system allows the airline to conduct climatic risk analysis and provides meteorological information and geospatial data for over 100 routes operated in Mexico and around the world.
Moreover, the system issues alerts that enable consideration of real-time weather conditions and forecasts for the upcoming hours. Environmental Intelligence Suite can analyze wind, rain, lightning, and other phenomena to improve operational decision-making for flight planning.
Manuel González del Yerro, leader of sustainability software for IBM Latin America, stated: «The future of business and the environment are deeply connected, and technology is enabling a greater understanding of how climate can impact companies.»
«It is a source of pride for us that Aeroméxico trusts IBM technologies to help manage climate risk, prioritizing safety and efficiency and anticipating adverse weather events,» added González.
On the other hand, Diego Convalia, Technical Vice President of Flight Operations at Aeroméxico, commented: «This technology complements the most modern aircraft, our crew’s experience, and the air traffic control technology and services in the countries where we operate.»
«This technology assists us in decisions regarding takeoffs, landings, flight routes, and ground operations, contributing to elevating the flight experience to an extraordinary level,» Convalia concluded.
