Icelandair has unveiled its summer schedule for the 2024 northern season, announcing the addition of Halifax (YHZ), Canada, and Pittsburgh (PIT), USA, to its network. In 2024, the airline anticipates a 10% increase in available seat kilometers (ASK) compared to the previous year.
During the summer of 2024, Icelandair will serve 50 destinations, including 28 with daily flights and 19 with multiple daily flights. Renowned for establishing a key connection hub between North America and Europe via Reykjavik (KEF), the airline operates over 3,600 monthly flights departing and arriving at the airport. In alignment with the Icelandic government, it offers a Stopover service of up to 7 days in the country, allowing travelers to explore its natural and cultural wonders.
This expansion is made possible by the addition of three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to its fleet for the upcoming year.
Its fleet consists of fourteen Boeing 737 MAX 8, four Boeing 737 MAX 9, thirteen Boeing 757-200, two Boeing 757-300, and three Boeing 767-300 (ER) aircraft, serving the North American and European market. For domestic flights and Greenland, the airline operates three Dash DHC-200 and three De Havilland DHC-300 aircraft.

Between 2024 and 2029, the airline will receive four Airbus A321neo (LR) and thirteen Airbus A321neo (XLR), replacing its Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 models.
«We are introducing an ambitious flight program for next summer, the largest in the company’s history,» stated Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair. «The North American market has been strong, and Americans now make up the largest group of tourists visiting Iceland,» he continued.
New Icelandair Destinations: Halifax and Pittsburgh
The Reykjavik-Pittsburgh route starts on May 16th and will offer four weekly flights operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a capacity of 160 passengers, providing 1,280 seats per week.
- Reykjavik-Pittsburgh flight FI 831 KEF 4:55 – PIT 19:20 / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
- Pittsburgh-Reykjavik flight FI 830 PIT 20:30 – KEF 18:25 (+1) / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
This is Icelandair’s first service to Pittsburgh, making it its twelfth destination in the USA. The airline’s presence in Pittsburgh offers travelers an additional gateway to Europe, complementing the existing service from British Airways. Previously, the now-defunct WOW Air was the last airline connecting the Pennsylvania city with Iceland from June 2017 to January 2019.
The Reykjavik-Halifax service starts on May 31st, operating three weekly flights with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a capacity for 160 passengers, offering 960 seats weekly.
- Reykjavik-Halifax flight FI 607 KEF 18:35 – YHZ 20:30 / Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Halifax-Reykjavik flight FI 606 YHZ 21:30 – KEF 4:45 (+1) / Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The airline is resuming flights to Halifax after a six-year hiatus. The resumption of service also provides travelers a new option to connect directly to Europe, complementing existing direct routes offered by Air Canada (London/Heathrow), Condor (Frankfurt), and Discover Airlines (Frankfurt).
