The South African Air Force (SAAF) will host a delegation from Embraer to conduct a demonstration of the capabilities of its KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft.

The arrival of the Embraer C-390 is expected on Friday, November 24, at 7:30 am, at the SAAF Waterkloof base. There, the Brazilian delegation will be received by the Minister of Defense and head of the South African Air Force, among other government authorities.

In April 2023, South African officials paid a visit to Brazil in regards to plans to bring the C-390 transport aircraft to South Africa for testing and demonstrations. The objective of the event is to showcase the aircraft’s capabilities for in-flight refueling, delivery of humanitarian assistance, cargo and transport, search and rescue and firefighting.

South Africa intends to evaluate the Millennium as an eventual replacement for its fleet of C-130BZ Hercules transport aircraft, whose operability has fallen to very low levels, given the advanced age of the material and budgetary restrictions.
