In 1987, Aeroflot had an important flight schedule between Russia and Cuba, centered mainly at José Martí International Airport in Havana.
The airline offered nine weekly flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo on Ilyushin Il-62s (with one and two classes of seats) and Ilyushin-86s, which had First and Economy.

Flights between the Russian capital and the Cuban capital had several intermediate stops, often involving three. The traditional stopovers were Shannon and Gander, as well as other European or African cities in specific cases.
Furthermore, Aeroflot also operated to other Latin American cities, which were the continuation of the flight to Havana. In 1987, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru formed part of the schedule.
