Delta Air Lines officially retired its last Mitsubishi CRJ-200 from its regional fleet, marking the end of an era for this aircraft. The final flight took place on November 30, 2023, covering the route between Elko Airport (EKO) and Salt Lake City (SLC). This 50-seat regional jet now joins Delta Air Lines’ historic fleet.
The Mitsubishi CRJ-200s, previously operated by SkyWest Airlines, have either been stored or transferred to SkyWest’s own operations. Delta made the decision to gradually phase out the CRJ-200s in 2020, opting to replace them with more efficient aircraft such as the CRJ-900ER or the Embraer E175.
In early 2023, Delta retired the last CRJ-200, operated by Endeavor Air at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Subsequently, the phase-out continued at regional airports, including Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP).
The final operational CRJ-200s for Delta were those of SkyWest in Salt Lake City, where the last commercial flight in Delta’s livery took off. The routes from SLC will now be served by Mitsubishi CRJ-900ER.
First Generation of the Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet
The Bombardier CRJ-200, manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace, was designed to carry 50 passengers, making it a popular choice for short to medium-haul flights. Its modular design and ability to operate on short runways made it ideal for airports with space limitations.

Mainly adopted by regional airlines, the CRJ-200 has enhanced connectivity and accessibility in previously underserved areas by operating on low-density routes and at regional airports. Its versatility in various weather and geographic conditions, along with short takeoff and landing capabilities, has expanded possibilities for air connectivity.
Despite Delta’s retirement, SkyWest Airlines will continue to operate nearly a hundred Mitsubishi CRJ-200s, flying for United Airlines Express. Additionally, Air Wisconsin operates 32 aircraft of this model for American Eagle.
