2024: A Historic Year for Dominican Aviation, Arajet at the Helm
Arajet consolidated its leadership in the Dominican Republic's aviation sector in 2024, carrying over 81% of local airline passengers. The airline plans further expansion in 2025, including operations to the United States and fleet growth, aiming to surpass 1.7 million passengers
With over 81% of passengers recorded among local airlines, Arajet established itself in 2024 as the leading airline in the Dominican Republic, according to data from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).
The company transported a total of 934,293 passengers, surpassing one million when including connecting travelers, marking a historic record for the country's aviation, as detailed in a statement by the JAC.
SkyHigh Dominicana ranked second, transporting 158,986 passengers, representing 14% of the total, while Air Century followed with 52,286 passengers, accounting for nearly 5%.
Operations and most-traveled routes
Beyond passenger numbers, Arajet also led in operational metrics, with 8,961 flights, followed by SkyHigh with 4,561 and Air Century with 2,251. Arajet's most popular route was the connection between Santo Domingo and Mexico City (Santa Lucía Airport), which transported 96,919 passengers in 773 operations.
Similarly, SkyHigh excelled with its service to Miami, which carried 29,029 passengers, while Air Century stood out on its route to Havana with 19,029 passengers.
A historic year for Dominican aviation
The JAC report highlights that 2024 was the best year in the history of Dominican aviation, with local airlines transporting more than 7% of the country's total passengers. Arajet also ranked as the sixth airline with the highest passenger traffic in the Dominican Republic, surpassing international carriers such as Frontier, Spirit, Avianca, Air Europa, and Iberia.
Arajet plans to begin operations to the United States in the second quarter of 2025, a move expected to significantly impact the market both nationally and continentally. The airline also projects adding three aircraft to its fleet, aiming to reach 1.7 million passengers transported, which would place it among the top 3 airlines in the country, including international carriers.

The Dominican airline currently flies from Santo Domingo to Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten, San José-CR, San Salvador, Guatemala City, Cartagena, Bogotá, Medellín, Mexico City-AIFA, Lima, and Kingston. From Punta Cana, it serves Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Santiago de Chile, Quito, Guayaquil, Toronto, and Montreal.
