On Thursday, January 4th, GOL Linhas Aéreas resumed flights connecting the Gilberto Freyre International Airport, in Recife, Pernambuco, with the Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza), in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This seasonal operation will continue until the first week of April.
The increase in weekly flight frequency to the Argentine capital, which until December were only on Saturdays and through Jorge Newbery International Airport (Aeroparque), now occurs on Thursdays.
According to our media partner Aeroin, Pernambuco is resuming the two flights per week frequency to Argentina that it had before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the difference is that until 2020, all flights connected through Ezeiza.
From the beginning of April, these seasonal flights via Ezeiza will end, leaving only the regular flights between the Pernambuco capital and Aeroparque.
The route, whose flights can accommodate up to 186 passengers, is operated with the Boeing 737 MAX (-8). The negotiations for this increase in the Pernambuco air network were carried out by the Pernambuco Tourism Company (Empetur) in conjunction with the Secretary of Tourism and Leisure (Setur-PE).
Empetur President Eduardo Loyo emphasizes that this increase in frequency is fundamental for tourism and for the state’s economy, given that Argentina is the main international source of tourists for Pernambuco.
“This increase in Pernambuco’s air network towards the Argentine capital is extremely important because the country is our main source of tourists, followed by São Paulo and Uruguay. Despite having managed to resume the number of flights to Buenos Aires that we had before the pandemic, we will work to increase and conquer even more destinations within Argentina, further strengthening this partnership. In addition, direct frequencies are important for the comfort and well-being of our tourists. We are very happy to start 2024 with this new flight,” explains Eduardo Loyo.
According to the Secretary of Tourism and Leisure of Pernambuco, Daniel Coelho, this connectivity brings several benefits to the State as it allows for an expansion of foreign visitors to Pernambuco, as well as generating employment and income for the local population.
“As Argentina is our main international source of tourists, the increase in connectivity is extremely important. We highlight that the return of this flight was something worked on by the Secretary of Tourism and Empetur throughout last year, in a good relationship with Gol which has been a partner of the State. We hope that with this new flight we can bring even more Argentine tourists to Pernambuco, strengthening our productive chain, generating employment and opportunities for our population,” says Coelho.
The Consul General of Argentina in Recife, Julieta Grande, believes that the result of this new flight is quite positive for both countries and for Pernambuco, and celebrates the partnership built between the State Government and the Argentine Consulate in Recife.
“The inauguration of the second frequency of the direct flight between Argentina and Pernambuco presents various advantages and benefits for both places, as tourism plays an important role in the economic growth of both countries. More air connections between Argentina and Pernambuco strengthen the regional integration between both destinations, not only in tourism but also in trade and investments,” Grande explains.
