On Tuesday, January 2nd, Chilean airline SKY added two new routes connecting Santiago with Montevideo and, from the Uruguayan capital, Salvador de Bahía in Brazil. The latter city joins four other destinations that the airline already has in this country.
SKY flight 640 departed at 05:10 hours from Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport to Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay. From there, it took off to Salvador de Bahía with 90% occupancy.
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, prior to the boarding of the first passengers, Julio Solar, SKY’s Manager of Strategies, Network and Alliances said «The start of operations of these new routes is part of our international growth strategy and seeks to continue strengthening our connectivity network with a presence in the main markets of the region.»
«The results have been very gratifying and auspicious, so we expect to transport more than 100 thousand passengers between Chile, Uruguay and Brazil by 2024, at convenient prices and in the newest fleet in South America.»

Manuel Valencia, Deputy Manager of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Nuevo Pudahuel, added «This flight we are inaugurating with SKY Airline is very relevant for Santiago Airport. Not only does it reinforce connectivity with Montevideo, providing a new connection option for passengers, but it also allows us to connect Santiago with Salvador de Bahía.»
«Both airports are controlled by one of our shareholders, VINCI Airports, which has a purpose focused on a high standard experience for all passengers. On the other hand, this route consolidates Brazil as the country where we have the most direct routes, due to the close tourist, commercial and social ties we share with that country,» he added.
Both routes have three weekly flights and will be operated by Airbus A320neo aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers.
