Viva Aerobus revealed its preliminary operational results for 2023: the airline showed solid real growth compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic), exceeding its previous record set in 2022.

In 2023, the low-cost carrier transported 24,992,000 passengers, which represents an increase of 20.7% compared to the same period in 2022. The breakdown of domestic and international markets revealed significant growth of 21.4% in the former and a 15.3% increase in the latter.

Compared to 2019, the airline transported more than 13 million additional passengers, taking advantage of the gap left by Interjet and Aeromar, and was one of the fastest-growing companies in Mexico. According to the Mexican Civil Aviation Authority (AFAC), Viva Aerobus remained the third most important airline in passenger movement in Mexico both nationally and internationally.

The Mexican company reported an annual increase of 18.1% in capacity (measured in ASM) in 2023, while demand (in RPM) increased by 19.4%. The resulting load factor increased by 0.9 percentage points, reaching 86.8%.

“We closed 2023 with a solid traffic and demand environment. Demand trends remain robust for the start of 2024, following the favorable market dynamics observed in recent months.”, mentioned Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.
