PLAY Airlines offers layovers in Iceland at no additional cost, allowing travelers to explore the country in the midst of any flight between North America and Europe. The initiative aims to promote tourism in the Nordic region.

These layovers leverage the hub-and-spoke model of the airline, where all flights connect through Iceland. PLAY enables passengers to stay up to 10 days in the country to experience the incredible natural wonders of the island.

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY, stated: “PLAY has capitalized on Iceland’s proximity to Europe to offer travelers comfortable flights and affordable fares, and now the opportunity for layovers provides even more advantages to our passengers.”

“Instead of a brief stopover in Iceland, travelers can take a break in this dream destination for a day or even a week to explore everything our country has to offer. With these extended layovers, both we and our passengers benefit, as they allow for low-cost exploration of the country,” he added.

PLAY flies to Baltimore, Boston, New York, and Washington DC in the United States, as well as Toronto in Canada. All these destinations can be connected, through its HUB in Keflavik, to over 30 European cities, including Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Copenhagen, Barcelona, and Athens.

In 2023, it was voted by readers of USA Today 10Best as having the best cabin crew and recognized as the best low-cost airline in Northern Europe, according to the prestigious World Airline Awards, based on customer satisfaction.
