Copa Airlines Leads in Punctuality Across Latin America, According to Cirium Report

Cirium awarded Copa Airlines the accolade as the most punctual airline in Latin America, after having achieved a rate of 89.5% in 2023, significantly higher than the rest of the region, the highest in all of America, and one of the three highest globally.

“Being recognized again as the most punctual airline in Latin America and obtaining the best punctuality result in the entire American continent is the result of our firm purpose to connect the Americas in a reliable and timely manner,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines, during the award ceremony that took place at the Airline’s Maintenance Center at Tocumen airport, where recognition was also given to 20 workers from different departments representing those who contributed to Copa maintaining its leadership in punctuality.

“This achievement is possible thanks to the teamwork, commitment, effort, and dedication of the human talent of Copa Airlines in Panama and in all the countries where we operate, which is a source of great pride and satisfaction for all of us,” he added.

The company was also recognized for its flight completion factor, which reached 99.84%, with Copa being one of the two airlines with the fewest flight cancellations in the world, key to fulfilling its role of connectivity between the south and north of the continent through the “Hub of the Americas” that reaches more than 80 destinations.

“Congratulations to Copa Airlines not only for its exceptional punctuality in 2023 but also for its consistency in being the most punctual Latin American airline not just in 2023, but in nine of the last ten years. Their consistency is a testament to their commitment to operational excellence,” said Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, a consultancy that evaluates the performance of 500 airlines based on the number of seats and flights before compiling its traditional ranking based on categories such as “global airlines” (operating on at least three continents) or “regional airlines” (focused on one continent, as in the case of Copa Airlines). Its more than 600 data sources include flight trackers, airlines, airports, global distribution systems, position data, and civil aviation authorities.
