The Brazilian Army (EB) confirmed that it is in the process of acquiring Black Hawk helicopters, which were previously operated by the US Army, to renew its fleet.
Rumors have been circulating since the early part of the year about the purchase of more Sikorsky UH-60 helicopters for the Army, with the aim of replacing the older Black Hawks and also all French-designed HM-3 Cougar (Airbus H215M) helicopters.
The Brazilian Army recently informed Congress that it is negotiating the acquisition of 12 second-hand Black Hawk helicopters, which are currently in storage. Although no mention was made of the model selected, it is likely to be the UH-60L or M versions.

History of the Black Hawk in Brazil
In 1997, Brazil purchased four units of the Sikorsky S-70, a civilian version of the Black Hawk that can be adapted for military use. The purchase was made in order for the Brazilian Army to better support the mediation mission in the border conflict between Ecuador and Peru.
Since then, the Black Hawk family has expanded in Brazil and is now used by all forces, including the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) with the UH-60L Black Hawk for combat search and rescue (SAR/CSAR) missions, and the Brazilian Navy (MB) with the SH-60B Seahawk for anti-submarine and anti-ship missions.
