Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) and MRO Japan have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on passenger-to-cargo aircraft conversions, with MJP acting as a subcontractor for EFW on the Airbus A320P2F/A321P2F programs. MJP will become Japan’s first P2F conversion site for Airbus aircraft.
Takashi Takahashi, CEO of MJP, commented on the collaboration. «We are committed to EFW. We look forward to establishing a long-term strategic cooperation between the two companies for P2F conversions,» he said. The size of Japan’s cargo and logistics market is estimated to expand at an annual growth rate of 4.2% between 2024 and 2029. Air cargo transportation will be the fastest-growing segment. Airbus P2F aircraft are already flying in Japan for operators such as Yamato Holdings, one of Japan’s largest delivery service companies.

«We welcome MRO Japan to our global family of P2F conversion sites. The P2F platform is perfect for cargo transportation needs in Japan and the region,» said Jordi Boto, CEO of EFW. «Partnerships with experienced solution providers like MJP provide EFW with strategic support as we expand our conversion capacity to seize opportunities in the growing Japanese air cargo market.»
EFW’s A320P2F/A321P2F programs are developed in collaboration with ST Engineering and Airbus. EFW owns the Supplemental Type Certificate and leads the program, handles marketing, and finalizes sales. To meet demand, ST Engineering and EFW have established a network of facilities in the Asia Pacific, Europe, and the United States to carry out conversions for their Airbus P2F programs, which include the A330P2F, A320P2F, and A321P2F platforms.
