London Gatwick Airport will provide more than 90 weekly flights to Asia and the Middle East this summer season, following the launch of new routes to Baku (Azerbaijan), Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
The airport has welcomed the arrival of new carriers such as Azerbaijan Airlines, Turkmenistan Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways in recent weeks, with three flights a week to Baku, two flights a week to Ashgabat and one flight a week to Tashkent.
With these new services, London Gatwick now serves 12 destinations in Asia and the Middle East, including markets to China, India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. New routes to Beijing (Air China), Guangzhou (China Southern) and Singapore (Singapore Airlines) will begin this summer.
«We are delighted to welcome three new flag carriers to London Gatwick, offering excellent connectivity to previously underserved markets of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. We continue to develop our long haul options at London Gatwick and these new routes, while fantastic destinations in their own right, also offer passengers excellent onward connectivity across Asia,» Stephanie Wear, Vice President Aviation Development at London Gatwick.
London Gatwick Airport is investing in its long-term future with plans for regular use of the airport’s northern runway, which is currently under scrutiny by the Planning Inspectorate. This low-impact plan will increase resilience, reduce delays and provide a significant boost to national and regional economies, supporting trade, tourism and creating new jobs.
