Virgin Atlantic consolidates its operation in India, adding a new destination and increasing seat capacity. The airline will have five daily flights between the United Kingdom and India, making it its second largest international market after the United States.
On March 31, Virgin Atlantic launched its third destination in India with flights between London Heathrow and Bangalore with a daily service on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The British airline is the fifth European carrier to offer services at Kempegowda International Airport and will compete in this segment with British Airways.
With the increase in bilaterals from London to Delhi/Mumbai, Virgin Atlantic from October 27, 2024, is adding a second daily flight between London Heathrow and Mumbai, both services will be operated on 397-seat Airbus A350-1000s. The airline competes on this route with British Airways and Air India.
Virgin Atlantic from 2025, Virgin Atlantic will provide more than one million seats to India, this represents a 336% capacity growth from 2019. In addition, Virgin Atlantic Cargo will offer more than 40 million kilograms of space to and from India.
The airline also its schedule includes two daily flights between London Heathrow and Delhi operated on Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Virgin Atlantic also has a codeshare partnership with IndiGo that allows connections to other Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Goa and Hyderabad.
In 2025, Virgin Atlantic will celebrate 25 years of operation in India and for the first time will offer one million seats annually. The airline sees this market as a great opportunity, with the economy on the upswing and demand for international travel from the region expected to grow significantly.
