airBaltic has selected RECARO Aircraft Seating to manufacture the new economy class seats for their Airbus A220-300. The announcement was made during the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2024 in Hamburg, Germany.

With this agreement, the airline becomes the first in Europe and the second in the world to equip an A220 aircraft with these seats.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, stated: “This year, we are celebrating eight years since airBaltic became the global launch operator of the Airbus A220-300.”

“To further enhance passenger comfort and travel experience, we are thrilled to reveal our plans to collaborate with RECARO Aircraft Seating on our new seating offering, which will benefit airBaltic passengers traveling within the airline’s extensive network in Europe and beyond,” he added.

The RECARO seats set new standards in the industry, being lighter and featuring an ergonomic design that ensures greater passenger comfort.

airBaltic customers will enjoy more spacious and ergonomic seats. Additionally, the RECARO seats feature an integrated headrest, a 30-inch seat pitch, and a USB-C port.

To maintain a consistent design across the fleet, the new seats will retain the light gray leather design. The first A220-300 equipped with the new seats is scheduled for 2026.

Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding, remarked that “teaming up with airBaltic is an exciting opportunity for us at RECARO. Our economy class seat will elevate passenger comfort within airBaltic’s cabin to new heights, and I am confident that this collaboration marks the beginning of a long-lasting partnership.”

airBaltic operates a fleet of 47 Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The airline became the launch customer for this model, after receiving the first unit in November 2016.
