Turkish Airlines negotiates with Airbus and Boeing for the purchase of 235 aircraft, which will constitute the remaining part of the airline’s expansion plan. The president of the Turkish company, Ahmet Bolat, revealed some details during an event alongside Airbus and Rolls-Royce.
In December 2023, Turkish celebrated an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 355 aircraft. The order consists of A321neo and A350 XWB aircraft. With these new negotiations, the airline’s fleet expansion plan would be completed, aiming to reach a fleet of 600 aircraft.
Bolat confirmed that negotiations are underway with Airbus and Boeing for the purchase of the remaining 235 aircraft for the fleet expansion plan. The president of Turkish Airlines made it clear that the company has always maintained a balanced policy between both manufacturers.
Agreement for the development of the Turkish aerospace industry
Rolls-Royce and Turkish Airlines have celebrated their ongoing cooperation to support and grow Turkey’s position in the global aerospace industry.
Both companies signed a joint declaration at a ceremony held at Turkish Airlines’ headquarters in Istanbul. Ministers of Industry and Technology, Trade, Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Deputy Minister of National Defense attended.
The joint statement comes after the historic order of 80 Airbus A350 aircraft by Turkish Airlines. This agreement makes Turkish Airlines the largest global operator of the Trent XWB, which powers the Airbus A350, and included an order for 120 Trent XWB-84 engines and 40 Trent XWB-97 engines, excluding options and spares.
As part of Rolls-Royce’s long-term strategy, it includes the potential development of competitive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capability and increased supply chain engagement. Rolls-Royce estimates that these projects could have a significant positive impact on the Turkish economy in the coming years.
