Iberia Express has reached a new milestone by surpassing 20 million passengers transported to and from the Canary Islands. The airline has operated nearly 130,000 flights over 12 years of operations in the archipelago.
This achievement was celebrated at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport. The event was attended by the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León; the Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo Cabrera; and the Minister of Tourism of La Palma, Raquel Rebollo, among others.
The CEO of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez, stated: “Since our inception, we have been committed to sustainable connectivity with the Canary Islands, offering a robust range of destinations and frequencies with Madrid, with schedules that cover all time slots and allow for the best connections.”
“Iberia Express is committed to facilitating travel for residents with excellent connectivity through Madrid to over 100 international destinations worldwide, with an on-time performance of 88.8% on flights to the Canary Islands last year,” Gómez added.
Of the more than 20 million passengers transported by Iberia Express, a large majority are residents who have benefited from the air bridge between the Canary Islands and Madrid, and from Madrid to the world through Iberia’s network and associated airlines.
To celebrate with its customers, Iberia Express surprised a passenger on today’s flight I23832 from Madrid to Gran Canaria with 20 flights for the next 12 months.
Summer 2024
This summer, Iberia Express increased its capacity to over 2 million seats to and from the archipelago, which is 15% more capacity than in 2023 and almost 40% more than in 2019.
Iberia Express will connect Madrid with up to nine daily flights each way to Gran Canaria, up to 10 to Tenerife, up to three to Lanzarote, two to Fuerteventura, and up to two daily flights to La Palma.
In addition to these connections to the Canary Islands, transversal routes between Oviedo-Tenerife and Vigo-Tenerife will be added from June to September, with two weekly frequencies in the central months to facilitate the arrival of visitors to the islands from the northernmost part of the peninsula.
